MELTING
"MELTING" is based on a concept of ice caps melting under the climate change caused by global warming. The spinning of the subject from slow to fast represents a situation that starts slightly and then it begin to develop, everything becomes stronger and stronger, and after the most fierce situation, everything returns to peace. This process could be a prediction of our environment. If we indulge the global warming developing and do not take any action, the result of global warming will become more and more intense, the ice caps will melt and the sea level will rise, and one day in the future, it might develop to a super flood that make the earth no longer suitable for human living. And
after that, the earth will return to peace, and everything seems never happened.
This artwork expresses a suppose that what will happen if the whole world's ice caps are melted. It comes from some nowaday's serious environmental problems, especially the climate change by global warming. The subject of the work is candle wax. In history, the artworks that used wax were wax statue, which used wax to creat a figurative item. This time, I decided to try something different on wax. I melted the candle wax in heat that made it in liquid state, and then poured it into water, when it cooled down, it re-solidified
and shaped like a reversed ice cap under water. And this "ice cap" totally matched the concept of the artwork, especially when I reversed the video sequence that made the video present a reverse process of the melted candle wax poured in water. So, the final video is a process that solid candle wax under water spins from slow to fast and then it begin melting and being pulled away from water, after that, the water return to peace.
In this artwork, I integrated some elements I researched before, such as temporality, things changed by time, and time sequence. Meanwhile, I increased the concept of space and some elements of nature. Eventually, I combined all these elements and creat this artwork "MELTING".
