PARADISE

“Refugee Crisis” has been a hot issue since 2015, and a lot of documentary and news photographs have exposed the refugees’ life on the borderline. Nearly all these photos make viewers feel heartbreaking and sympathetic. To combine the top news, I decided to start a project related with “Refugee Crisis”. However, to talking a tragedy story with a series of documentary photographs is not my adept, so, I try to use a different angle, which is from art and philosophy angle to see this issue, and also integrate temporality and exist, human and nature that I researched before.

In this project, I simulated some refugees’ tents and even refugees themselves by using reflective materials. The reflective tent and reflective human in the scene create a feeling that “they were there”. It is like a track of living. Meanwhile, the project will be shown with the original scene without anything in raster images, which will enhance the temporary of human living and emphasize the permanent of nature. So, “refugee crisis” is a lead out point of the concept of temporality and human and nature, but in the same time, all these concepts will be back to the “refugee crisis” and express my own views of it.

The title of this project is “Paradise” which is a place of timeless harmony, but in here, it represents an ideal dream holding by refugees who still living in the border jungle. Other than some refugee photographs, in my project, I am willing to create a hope that all good things will come. To most of people, the tent that refugees live is a symbol of misery, but maybe to the refugees themselves, the tent is a home to survive, is a hope of tomorrow will be fine. So, that is refugees’ paradise that is a family and full of best wishes.
